News Release

Call for Artists (RFQ)

Opportunity:

The City of Lake Forest Park is seeking an artist from the greater Puget Sound area to incorporate art on or by a pedestrian bridge that will be installed over McAleer Creek in Blue Heron Park. The artwork may be contemporary or traditional and is expected to add visual interest and enjoyment. Artists are encouraged to submit their ideas. Possible art opportunities include but are not limited to:

  • Panel attached to the bridge or overlook railing
  • Pavement leading to bridge
  • Pilasters
  • Gateways or archways
  • Seating (either stand alone bench or incorporated with overlook wall.)

Budget:

Up to $17,000 including tax, is available for public art. This amount will cover the artwork, design, fabrication and installation of the art, materials, labor, insurance and transportation to the site of the artwork.

Background:

The proposed Hamlin Bridge will provide a safe route for the community to walk to the Lake Forest Park Towne Centre. The bridge will cross over McAleer Creek from Hamlin Road to Brookside Blvd. NE. It is located in Blue Heron Park, a heavily vegetated .50 acre passive park directly west of Bothell Way, a high traffic state highway. The park provides for a quiet retreat from the noise of Bothell Way. McAleer Creek, a salmon bearing stream flows through the park.

The manufactured bridge spanning 60 feet is made of steel with Ipe wood decking and steel painted railing. Invasives, will be removed from the stream bank on either side of the Brookside entrance to the bridge and replanted with native species. The bridge overlook areas will be paved with low walls and railings at the entry points of each end of the bridge.

Artists are encouraged to visit the site prior to submitting materials. The park is located at 16840 Hamlin Road East across from the Texaco gas station. See the City’s website for more information on the bridge and its environs: www.cityoflfp.comcommunity/places/qheron.html
