CONSTRUCTION UPDATE – WEEKEND WORK SR 522, Feb 21, 2009
Construction Alert:
- Weekend Work on SR 522: On Saturday, February 21 crews are scheduled to begin two weekends of construction on SR 522. Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction and vehicle access will be temporarily restricted. This work is weather dependent.

Weekend work – SR 522 Roadway Paving
At 3 a.m. on Saturday, February 21 crews will limit traffic on SR 522 to one lane in each direction between 73rd Ave. NE and Kenmore’s eastern city limits. Traffic will be shifted to the south to accommodate removal of the existing concrete roadway and repaving of the westbound lanes. Crews will re-open the roadway at 5 a.m. on Monday, February 23. The eastbound lanes will be repaved on another weekend.
What to expect during construction
- 24-hour construction
- Additional equipment and noise
- Pavement breaking from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on February 21
To reduce unavoidable noise as much as possible, we use sensitive noise alarms that are necessary to maintain worker safety, use bed liners to reduce noise and limit the use of noisier equipment from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Local access and detours
Access to businesses and residences on the north side will be temporarily restricted due to the location of the work zone:
- Entrances to businesses and residences will be maintained at all times for traffic travelling westbound
- No left turns onto eastbound SR 522 from businesses and residences.
Eastbound drivers should use one of two detours to access businesses and residences north of SR 522. The detours are:
- U-turn at 77th Ct. NE.
- Existing detour through Bothell via NE 180th St.
Flaggers and police officers will be on site during the weekend at intersections to monitor and help direct traffic. Click here to see map.
Weekend two – repaving eastbound lanes
The construction zone for the second weekend of work will extend west to 68th Ave. NE. Traffic will be shifted to the north side of SR 522 and the same turn restrictions and detours will apply. Dates for this work have not yet been finalized.
