City News Update:  NEC Municipal Jail Planning-the next steps and voting today for Elections Director

NEC Jail Planning

The public scoping period ran from Dec. 18, 2008, through Jan. 30, 2009 for six identified potential jail sites including Aldercrest . Six EIS scoping meetings were held in January 2009. Verbal and written comments received at the EIS scoping meetings and comments received via U.S. mail and email have now been posted online. The Draft EIS is expected to be issued in the third quarter of 2009.

What does the Election Director do?
Responsibilities of the Elections Director include: administering up to six elections each year for 143 jurisdictions, creating and printing the King County voters’ pamphlet, managing the voter registration database for 1.1 million voters, filing candidates for office, verifying initiatives and petitions, and managing a staff of more 62 regular employees and over 600 temporary employees. The Elections office maintains and is the official repository of political boundary maps, geographic information systems data associated with jurisdiction boundaries, and of the King County copies of campaign financial disclosure forms

There is a King County ballot drop box in the lower level of the Towne Centre shopping center near the entrance.  Voters do not have to pay the cost of postage. The Ballot drop box will open until 8 p.m. on Election Day, Feb. 3, 2009.
