Improving Water Quality in Lake Forest Park

Failing septic systems can be a very serious problem by releasing untreated waste into the groundwater and on the surface. The untreated waste contains viruses and pathogens that are harmful to human health and water quality. Indicators for a failing septic system include bad odors, wet spots, lush green grass over the system, plumbing back-ups and gurgling noises from the plumbing or tank. In an effort to provide an alternative to repairing septic systems and improve the environment the City Council funded an expansion of the sanitary sewer system to all unsewered areas in the district. At the same time the City Council adopted regulations requiring residents using septic systems to either connect to the public system or license their on-site system and pay a related excise tax.

If you have any questions about the sewer availability or the on-site wastewater system license program, or you are interested in becoming involved with programs to improve water quality, please contact the City of Lake Forest Park at 206-368-5440, email Aaron Halverson, Engineering/Stormwater Technician at aaron @ cityoflfp.com or Click to go to the sewer webpage.
