City Crews continuing to clear streets
The snow, freezing rain, ice and rain cycle is making it difficult to clear all of the roads in the City.
The City crews have been working every day since this event began including Christmas. They are working Friday night, Saturday and Sunday trying to get ahead of the snow. Snow and ice crews focus on primary routes first, including arterials, bus routes, and designated emergency routes. These roads will continue to receive treatment as long as necessary to reduce hazardous driving conditions.
The weight and texture of the current snow/ice mix make it difficult for the trucks and 4-wheel drive vehicles. The snow/ice/freeze cycle requires the crews to go over and over streets to keep emergency routes, snow routes and arterials open.
Once the primary routes are able to be left in a reasonably safe condition, attention will turn to secondary and residential streets. The safety of the crews and the City equipment make it impossible to get every street.
Garbage Collection
At your next regular collection day, you can put out all of the material that you have collected at no additional cost.
There is a free bulky yard waste collection event at City Hall on January 3. You can bring any downed limbs and holiday trees.
Prepare for potential flooding
Please check your drains and drainage ditches to be sure water is flowing. Over the next several days the weather will hover around freezing. As the snow melts and freezes, there is a potential for flooding. Please check the drains and ditch lines around your home to be sure they are flowing.
Tree branches are weighted down with snow. These can be a danger if they break electric or cable lines. All downed lines should be treated as live wire.
